Does Cannabis Strain Matter? Indica, Sativa vs Hybrid
Updated: Mar 3, 2021
Indica, Sativa or Hybrid?
Whether you are a new consumer of cannabis or an OG in the game surely you have come across the words Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid. What does it all mean? Why does it matter or does it even matter?
Indica and Sativa specifically refer to the physical attributes of the plant such as tall, short, narrow, or thick.
For centuries, cannabis plants have been transplanted across the globe and cross-bred. It is highly unlikely that a true pure-bred Sativa or Indica plant remains. Even if there is a pure Sativa or Indica plant still around….how would the physical features of the plant impact have an effect on my experience? Tough sell in my opinion.
What are the effects of Indica strains?
Indica is said to be more physically sedating and is perfect for relaxing.
What are the effects of Sativa strains?
On the other hand, Sativa is supposed to energize and have uplifting cerebral effects.
What are the effects of Hybrid strains?
As the name suggests, hybrid has a balance of both Indica and Sativa strains.
I’m no scientist, but from my personal experience: Strain type doesn’t matter much to me. Complement Cannabis also shares their opinion on the topic.

What really matters
Your mindset
Having happy, positive vibes never hurt. A calm and relaxed state of mind is a great way to start a new journey.
How much you consume matters
This is definitely relative to each person’s tolerance. Learn your tolerance and figure out where you want to be on the scale of mildly high to ‘laid out on the couch’. Consider trying lower dosed products first and increase the dose as you feel more comfortable with your high. Consume accordingly.
Terpenes
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in plants. Cannabis terpenes provide flower with their distinct scents, flavors, and feeling. If you’ve ever practiced aromatherapy it’s the same thing. What flavors and aromas do you appreciate? It’s really up to you!
Cannabinoid Content
Cannabinoid Content is important. There are so many cannabinoids and each can potentially have a different effect! The most common cannabinoids are THC, CBD, and CBN. Learn more about specific cannabinoids to dial in your experience!

Picking the best cannabis strain for you
Selecting the right cannabis products is a lot easier than it seems! As difficult as it may be, try to pick a product that works for you instead of an ‘Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid’ the budtender recommends. A great starting point would be to find a line of products that align with your cannabis goals. For instance, if you’re looking to keep it lite with an edible, go with a 2.5mg - 5.0mg THC piece of chewing gum or jello shot! What’s that, your tolerance is higher? Do you want take it to another level?! Well, then try a 10mg jello shot ...or two...or three. Understanding your levels of consumption will help you create a better cannabis experience!
